Casey is tied up in knots about rope idea
AMY BOWEN

10:30 - 28 September 2007

A Sutton entrepreneur - who faced the panel of BBC1's Dragon's Den earlier this year - is proving his latest business venture is far from money for old rope.

Casey Jones was last seen on our screens waving a cheese-encrusted shoe under the noses of Duncan Bannatyne and the other Dragons as he demonstrated his Klenz Sanitiser - a high-tech microwave-like device that kills germs and odours on anything placed inside it without using chemicals, heat or liquid. He persuaded two of the panel members to invest £100,000 in his business, but now has come up with a new money spinner - the Nuptial Knot.

"We all know the phrase 'tying the knot' but few of us know its origins," Casey said.

"The custom dates back to the Middle Ages where a knot was tied during the wedding ceremony, as it was believed that it would have a positive influence on the marriage and brings good luck.

" I thought that it would be fantastic if we could offer people a little escape from all the commercialism and hark back to an original traditional ritual to help make their special day even more memorable and, if the legends are to be believed, perhaps give them a little luck too."

The Nuptial Knot comes in a wooden box with an engraved plaque showing the happy couple's names.

And it is already proving a success with Casey now in negotiations with a number of major high street stores and wedding specialists. "We have been getting great feedback from couples and surprisingly its being bought not just by traditional bride and grooms but also for civil partnerships and even as wedding presents.

"The demand has been more than we ever expected at this stage."

Inventor on verge of valve success
HANNAH GREAVES

10:30 - 19 October 2007

Sean Linden, of Poppy Lane, has joined forces with 'invention broker' Casey Jones - who appeared on BBC1's Dragon's Den earlier this year - to launch his invention which detects and switches off leaking gas.Sean, a former gas fitter, has been working on the project for five years and has invested everything to finally achieve the finished product.

"I was elated when I got the patent in March," he said.

"It has been a frustrating process and it has cost me £800,000 to get this far," he says.

"I had to sell up and have put everything I have into it, but I have no doubt it will pay off."

The safety device uses a carbon monoxide detector which is linked via a radio transmitter to a valve which shuts off the gas supply in the case of a leak.

"When Sean first showed me his idea I could see it has worldwide potential because it is a life saving device," said Casey.

"I spent 25 years in the fire brigade so I know carbon monoxide is a killer.

"But it can detect all different types of gas and will switch it off at the source.

"You can even phone it from your mobile of you are out to check you haven't left the gas on by mistake."

While Casey has already generated interest from manufacturers in Korea and the far east, he is also speaking to fire services and councils in the UK to highlight the potential of the safety device.

"Within 12 months we could see legislation for all premises to have a safety valve like this fitted," he said.

"That is the ultimate quest.

"It is ideal for students, buy to let landlords and the elderly; anyone who could be at risk from faulty gas boilers.

"This is a multi-million pound product which can save lives and I am 100 per cent behind it."

The gas safety device will be launched on November 20 at the Inventors Exhibition at Millennium Point in Birmingham City Centre.
